For You vs. For me

Doing it for others can only make you go so far. But when doing it for yourself, you can reach new levels that far surpasses what you thought was possible.

I have been roaming around a few online communities and I find that a lot of the members seem to workout for the sole purpose to attract others and gain the acceptance of their peers. This is probably a motivator for many people in the gym, especially those who are just beginning. Personally, I believe this is not the most ideal way when deciding why you want to exercise and setting goals. One reason is that people who usually think that way are usually narcissists and continually judge everyone based on their appearance. That is by no means how anyone should live their life. They will just end up being shallow and not recognize that it does not matter if they look healthy, but if they are healthy.

Another issue is if you are working out just to attract people. You have got to think about this in the long-run. For example, let’s say you have finally obtained the goal body you have always wanted buy putting the right hours in the gym and staying focused just so that you can get all the girls or guys to check you out. Then one day you find someone, actually, someone finds you. They like your body; they find it attractive and are constantly complimenting you. Mission accomplished, right? I mean you found your dream girl or guy who absolutely admires you dream body. What more can you ask for? Well, I’ll tell you what you don’t want to ask for: someone who has a better body than you. You see, when someone is attracted to you because of how you look, it is only a matter of time their eyes will wander over to the next person who looks better than you. The only thing left is you in the backburner.

The only acceptance you should care about is from yourself. You know what you want and what it takes to succeed. Your self will always appreciate what you have achieved, even more than your own friends and even those complete strangers that you want to attract. Also, by making goals centered on your own terms, you feel a lot more accomplished as you are consistently aware of your own progress every time you step on the scale, look in the mirror, run on the streets, or lift up that weight.

My tip for you is that you think about what you want to achieve for yourself. Make it challenging and exciting that will result in healthy and impressive results one you reach your goal. All the attraction and compliments that you starve for will come to you naturally without any effort of thinking of others when exercising. When done right, you will not just be a lot healthier than what you were before, but you may attract like-minded people who appreciate those who strive in having a healthy body. If it all goes well, you may have found a new gym buddy who you can motivate and vice versa so that both of you can grow to newer levels!
